I’m often asked about my background when I start new assignments. People are usually surprised when they hear that my degree is art-related. You may wonder how an art school background has helped me when working with clients to achieve their goals.

It’s our job to consider how best to create the product they are looking for and bring it to life.

In its most basic form, art is simply creating something of value from nothing. This is very similar to how I describe what we do at M&S Consulting. When we work with clients to bring their needs to fruition, we listen to their wants, needs, and dreams for the future. Artists are also skilled at taking something existing and making it better. We do this often when working with clients as we strengthen their processes or update their applications.

Art also teaches you to look at every angle of a potential solution. It’s helped me think “outside the box” when assessing clients’ needs and desires. Our team creates art by engineering and troubleshooting. They start with the building blocks to create the fine finishing details of a project. Together, we create a stronger product. I’m confident my unique art-based background makes me a better consultant for our clients.
